The Pathways program focuses on developing socialization skills that are commonly difficult for individuals with severe learning and associated disorders. Staff assists participants in developing new peer relationships, maintaining peer relationships, appropriate social interactions, boundary issues, and address individual communication issues during the 20 to 25 events that are held each month in various locations throughout the community. One-on-one support is also offered.
To accommodate the schedules of our working participants, most events are held during evening and weekend hours. Some examples of events include:
- Dining out
- Attending sporting events
- Art classes
- Physical activities such as bowling, trail walking, and roller skating
- Educational classes such as reading, math, and conversation skills
- Game night
- Dinner and a movie
- Community volunteer opportunities
- Social dances
- Attending theater productions and concerts
- Day and weekend trips
- Monthly birthday celebration
All PLB-funded individuals receive an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) where goals are set, addressed, and monitored throughout the year. Our attendance policy states each participant must attend a minimum of one event each month.
